Finally loosing the photographers, Justin raced to the hospital and went to the maternity ward. He brought back April safe and sound and thanked everyone as Justin was directed into the delivery room. He put on scrubs as he went to her side and took her hand. Irish was in the middle of pushing as Justin and the doctor both encouraging her to push with all her might.

Irish screamed as she threw her head back. Lynn brought in her camera, taping in the entire event. “ Take a slow deep breath, and remember the most happiest time of your life.” Justin whispered to her. Irish thought back to the first time they made love. Irish began to push with ease as the baby began to stop moving.

A loud beep on the screen appeared as Irish’s head went back and her eyes rolled inward. “IRISH!” Justin and Lynn screamed in unison. The doctors and nurses began to speak in medical terns as Justin heard the doctor speak. “Let’s get her ready to c-section.”

She was sent to surgery and prepped for an emergency c-section. They hooked her up to oxygen and put her to sleep. Justin and Lynn were allowed in as the cut her open and felt around inside. After fifteen minutes they pulled out of Irish’s womb a very quiet and still baby. They rushed the frail infant to the pediatrics waiting to assist her.

Lynn went to the baby as watched as they tended to her. Justin stayed at Irish’s side as the doctor stapled her stomach up and got her ready to be sent back to her room.

Justin went over to his Mom and his baby, feeling drained and weak. She was so weak and looks like she was about to give up. He picked her up as he kissed her forehead.

“Welcome to the world, my sweet Shanti. I hope you stick around.” He cried as he was comforted by his Mom and still holding his only child.

Irish finally woke up days later as she heard soft sounds. She looked around the huge, private room and saw Trace sleep in one chair. Chris in another. JC and April snuggling on a nearby couch. And Justin and Lynn on the right side of her bed.

She hit the call button signaling the nurse. She came in as Irish spoke in a hoarse whisper. “Can I see my baby?” The nurse looked at her with a sad look. “I can’t bring her to you, but I can take you to her.”

Irish began to get worried as the burse brought a wheelchair to the bed and helped Irish in. They silently went down to where she was. When the nurse rolled Irish in to see the baby, tears filled up in her eyes as she looked at her baby. She turned away for a second as she spoke to the nurse.

“Can you let me h-hold her please?” Irish looked back to see the nurse lift up the little body and place it in her arms. Irish noticed how they took care of her. The baby was wrapped up tightly in the snuggly blanket with her little hat on her head. She wished she knew how her eyes looked.

Tears fell hard and fast as she asked to be left alone with her child. The nurse silently walked out as Irish cried some more.

Justin awakens to see that Irish was gone. He woke up his Mom, who in turn woke up everyone else. They left the room and began to search as a nurse passed by. Justin stopped her. “Excuse, me. Do you know where? Irish Elliot is at?”

The nurse pointed to the to a room, four doors down. They all went down and saw Irish still holding the baby, still in pain. They all realize that Justin and Irish needed time alone.

They each walked in and say good-bye to her, before telling Justin goodbye and leaving just leaving them there alone.

“Irish, I-“ Justin began to speak. Irish cut him off as she still held the baby. “I can’t do this Justin. I won’t survive. I could have-. The baby-.” She sobbed as she took off her engagement ring. “I can’t marry you. Here’s your ring back.” Irish handed him the ring back as he watched her face.

“I understand. This week was my worse fear come true. JC warned me that I would have to let you go. I tried to hold on and make you all see that our love would and could make it through anything. But not at the price of your life or our child’s.”

Justin cleared his throat as he stood back. “I heard that you’ve been doing well and that you can go home. I want you to stay at my place until you fully heal and the staples are out.”

Irish nodded slowly as Justin watched the sight before him. She handed him the baby, carefully of the wires and rolled out of the room, back to hers. Justin sat down with the child as he snuggled her against his cheek before holding her close to his chest . He took a deep breath and began to talk to her ,like he did in the womb.

“Hey you. You haven’t yelled or opened your eyes at all. You got your Mom and Dad worried . I guess you felt how screwed up this world can be. I know that my world isn’t for you guys. And you Mom feels that I still have a lot to give this world. So, I guess that means we can’t be with each other.” Justin sighed deeply as he finished. “But I would rather have you in this world , knowing I can love you both from afar. Instead of not having you hear and wishing you were. Want Daddy to sing to you again?”

Justin waited for a response before sighing sadly. “I’ll take your stillness as a yes.” He began to sing a song he had heard on the radio awhile back.
